Aftercoolers

Download datasheet

A caged, air blast aftercooler unit with centrifugal condensed moisture separator. Single/Twin air motor fans that are fed by an integral lubricated air supply making the package suitable for hazardous area operation. Protective cage prevents mobilisation and site damage, improves stability and enables both fork and lifting sling for placement.

A range of sizes are available to handle all Coates Rentair compressors with pressure ratings up to 25 barg and rated flow to 1500cfm.The controls are all pneumatic, so that the dryer is suitable for hazardous areas - petrochemical and offshore.

Features
  • Compact skid-mounted & Caged designs
  • Fork slots or lifting slings for placement
  • Pressure range to suit many applications
  • Service support across the world

Performance

Coates Aftercoolers are sized by their mass flow capability with operating conditions of:

Inlet Air Temperature: 90°C

How hot the compressed air is.

Ambient Air Temperature:

25°C

The temperature of the surrounding air (cooling air flow)
Approach Temperature:

+8 to 10°C

How near to ambient air temperature the compressed air is cooled to.

Aftercoolers can be used at any pressure up to their maximum pressure rating.

Installation:

  • Ensure connecting supply and delivery hoses are clean and dirt does not contaminate the delivered cool air. This is particularly important for oil free applications.
  • Rated performance is achieved immediately on start-up.
  • Allow for air motor air usage and flow line pressure losses when sizing and specifying equipment. Pressure drops are indicated for use at full capacity - Pressure loss reduces at part load.
  • Aftercoolers may be installed in parallel or with twin feed lines to handle a variety of different flows. Ask Coates for assistance in sizing your application.
  • Allow for long radius bends on hoses when assessing installation lay-out to minimise   pressure drop.

Operation:

  • This equipment is to be installed, commissioned and operated by personnel familiar with compressed air ancillary equipment.
  • Ensure air flow is in the correct direction, with separator downstream of cooler matrix.
  • Rated performance is achieved immediately on start-up.
  • Support spares are available for supply (sale or return) for shipment with this equipment.
  • Coates Rentair personnel are available to operate / maintain this equipment throughout the UK and wherever in the world you work.

Daily:

  • Manually drain valves on cooler body and separator each shift. Check condensate autodrain functions correctly.
  • Ensure air motor lubricator is topped up.
  • Monitor pressure drop across the supply system.

Every 300 hours:

  • For reliable operation, access is required to shut down the feed air compressors to carry out the Coates Rentair ‘Silver Service’ programme - attendance is required at 300 hour intervals / monthly. Check function of aftercooler at the same time.

Application Notes:

  • Performance is hindered if cooling air flow is directed into the prevailing wind.
  • Condensate from lubricated compressors will naturally contain a small proportion of oil carryover. Dispose of thoughtfully.
  • The cooled compressed air will be saturated at the exit temperature of the aftercooler and will still contain moisture vapour. Further cooling will result in more condensate downstream of the aftercooler. If this is a problem for your application please ask about Coates dessicant dryer range.

Please note all dimensions and data are approximate as there are variations between individual fleet items.
